Apuan Alps:
The destruction is called production and it is permitted by the lack of serious rules.
Here, the white Michelangelo marble is quarried, together with the chips for the industry of carbonates that affect 80% of mining.
The chips and debris from Apuan Alps enrich the calcium carbonate multinational corporations. In fact, the calcium carbonate has 279 different applications in everyday life, for example, it is pulverized and used in the production of plastics, rubber, paints, adhesives, paper, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and food.
Only 20% of the mining concerns the blocks, that mostly are loaded onto ships and taken to countries where the cost of production is lower.
The massive mining is done with industrial policies that endanger the entire environmental system of the area and It is one of the biggest reason of air and ground water pollution, flood and alteration of ecosystem and morphology of the area.
Each year tons of mountains, that have taken millions of years to be created, fall.
In this project it is represented only the sound side of this world made of statuesque men and women working and shaping the stone, who often risk their lives, and sometimes they lost them. A world of effort, passion, sacrifice, stories, friendships and families, of monumental sites, of metaphysical night where there is a strong human presence even when everything sleeps. A world made of laboratories full of objects and religious icons, full of dust in which just a thread of light can trigger movement and magic.
